Community Development Intern

Job description

Position Summary: The Sikh Coalition is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented intern to work with Community Development team on projects aimed at mobilizing and empowering the Sikh community nationally through overseeing grassroots engagement. An ideal candidate would possess skills and background in community organizing and/or community engagement. Strong writing and communication skills are a big plus!  


The internship will be managed by the Community Development team who will be sharing project management responsibilities on a variety of community development priorities that you will be working on. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in getting experience in grassroots community mobilization and engagement in addition to the hands-on experience in a non-profit setting that helps empower and educate.

Some responsibilities include:

·    Working on community focused initiatives such as the National Day of Seva

·    Drafting content as needed (presentations, resources etc)

·    Partnering with other teams to provide appropriate community support

·    Assist in arranging and/or conducting Sikh Awareness presentations

·    Assist in coordinating and providing resources for the community as needed

Requirements

The summer internship is a full time commitment for 10 weeks. A stipend of $1000 will be provided upon completion.

Qualifications:  The Sikh Coalition is looking for passionate individuals dedicated to protecting and advocating for the civil and human rights of all individuals. 


We are looking for someone who has:

  • A high level of attention to detail and organization.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including interviewing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for community work and engagement.
  • Fluency in Punjabi strongly preferred, conversational Punjabi required.
  • A flexible work schedule and willingness for some travel (this position will require some weekend and evening hours to meet and/or work with community members).
  • Knowledge of the Sikh Coalition's mission and previous initiatives is a plus.
  • Applicants should either be pursuing or have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree.
