The Sikh Coalition is proud to invite applications for its 7th Sikh Advocate Academy, our signature advocacy training program in the nation’s capital. At a time of rising xenophobia and hate violence, there is an increased need for grassroots volunteers to promote civility, interfaith solidarity, and civil rights in their local communities.
This week-long all-expenses paid training is hands-on and will provide you with the skills necessary to effectuate change through government action. Applicants with some community organizing or community leadership experience will benefit the most from this program. Selected applicants will get to interact with class peers and learn from some of the best advocacy leaders in the country.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
How to competently engage with government officials;
How to amplify your message through the media;
How to effectively build coalitions and organize communities;
Upon successful completion of the training program you will also obtain access to the Sikh Coalition’s expertise in policy and media engagement, and also join an exclusive community of advocates around the country. In exchange for this free training, we require each of our graduates to participate in assigned projects that advance the Sikh Coalition’s civil rights mission.
Learn what last year’s Sikh Advocates had to say about the training.
“After attending the Sikh Advocate Academy, I have finally gained the proper tools to keep up the Sikh tradition of fighting against injustice. The week-long training has equipped me with skills that I can utilize any day to achieve social justice and mobilize communities to act on human rights issues.”
